LET'S MAKE IT COUNT !
The West Hub, in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools program and industry partners Canva, Tableau, and Mapbox, designed and hosted a National Census Data Competition for high school students and teachers that coincided with the 2020 Census. The competition encouraged participants to ask questions, explore Census data, and share insights in their high school classrooms and the broader community, reflecting on how Census information and context matter. The challenge aimed to ensure a student’s zip code doesn’t determine their access to critical STEM skills development opportunities, increasing data literacy access to all students, particularly in hard-to-reach communities. Submissions from across the region and nation included posters and infographics, essays, static and interactive data visualizations, websites, and even a teacher-submitted comic/graphical narrative.
